Field Nation: Technician Calendar & Work Order Management

Field Nation is an online platform, connecting businesses with freelance technicians. Businesses can list on-site IT jobs, and freelance technicians can find freelance opportunities. This project was an effort to set out to improve the user experience of finding and managing work orders and staying on top of their schedule for freelance technicians.

Challenge: Create a seamless experience for IT Technicians to find, manage, and track work orders.

UX Research

The first step in this project was creating a research strategy to assess current state and uncover user pain points and desired future state.

Key tasks identified included Content Audit, Information Architecture and User Surveys.

Content Audit

The first task included a content audit to assess the current state of the platform for both the technicians and companies.

Quantitative Survey

I sent a survey to 100s of technicians with 118 total responses. The survey asked the users how they would rank certain information on a scale of not useful to very useful for finding work and managing their work.

Establishing Use Cases

To ensure focus of primary user needs, I created a list of the top use cases for finding work, managing work, conducting work, and information when the work has been completed.

Design Concepting

Once the Information Architecture was in place, I began concepting future state designs for technicians to find, manage, and track their work. The key screens included the work order table, work order details, and schedule view.

Extensive usability was conducted for all designs.
